I hope you have had a restful break. It’s hard to believe it’s been two weeks already!
I wanted to thank everyone for the thoughtful, kind gifts. I feel so lucky to be able to come to work with such supportive, generous and kind families. Thank you.
For our first week back, we will have a very busy, exciting week! We will begin our science unit on Balls and Ramps. For this unit, we will need toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, wrapping papers tubes, and other cardboard types of tubes. If you have any you would like to donate, please send them to school with your student. Additionally, we will begin learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott and Rosa Parks. We will learn about how these individuals helped to change our country through marching and peaceful protest. We will be reading a variety of biographies on their lives to guide our learning.
Our January visit to Queen Anne Manor has been scheduled for January 18th from 12:45-1:45 pm. If you would like to volunteer to join us, please use VolunteerSpot to sign up. Since completing our PBL, we will now just visit the Manor monthly to maintain our friendships we have developed. Our visits might involve doing a craft with the residents or reading to the residents or other fun activities.
Finally, we will soon begin our “100 Book Reading Challenge” as a class. Each student will be challenged to read 100 different books by the end of the year. These books can be read at home or at school. Students will just need to document the title of the book and then will record the title at school. Currently, I am working on a way to display all of the books we will have read for the challenge. Stay tuned for updates!
Thank you,
Alicia
