As many of you know, I have been working towards my National Board Certification. This process has spanned all year and is getting close to wrapping up. I believe the positive impact on my classroom has been significant. The process of writing for the National Board Certification is very technical and there isn’t much room to tell the stories of how my focus on instruction has impacted students’ lives. Part of the process includes documenting my accomplishments as a teacher. I am able to submit evidence from families in form of a letter or email. Any documents I submit are confidential with all last names removed.
I chose to document four accomplishments. My first accomplishment was my focus on writing this year. I have worked to guide all students in my class to strong, confident writers. Today during Writers’ Workshop, I looked around my room at all of my students working hard to finish up their realistic fiction stories, and I couldn’t believe how engaged each child was. My second accomplishment was to pilot 1 to 1 Ipads in the classroom. I have used these Ipads as tools to connect students through our blogging community and in creative ways to enhance student learning such documenting the first signs of spring using the camera App and VoiceThread . My third accomplishment was our PBL project with an emphasis on our connection to Queen Anne Manor. Each visit to the Manor is exciting for both students and residents of the Manor. My fourth accomplishment was to work with Mr. Jeffery to create an App selection rubric for usage by QAE teachers. If your child has been impacted by any of these accomplishments, I would love to hear your stories in email or letter format.
Thank you,
Alicia
