We have begun our winter science unit, Balls and Ramps. We have been comparing different properties of a variety of balls and testing them to see which are the best bouncers and rollers. Before we began, we set up expectations for balls. We decided that real physicists don’t play with the balls but instead treat them like a tool. That means that we won’t throw or kick the balls no matter how tempting it might be. The balls we have compared so far are rubber balls, multicolored bouncy balls, polystyrene balls and ping-pong balls. After we have finished our observations, we write about our findings using the sentence starters “I observed…” or “I noticed…” This science unit is a lot of fun and we have really enjoyed it so far. Below are pictures from our observations.
