Another component of class meetings that we focused heavily on this week was giving and receiving complements. We worked on complementing ourselves for things such as being kind to friends, working hard on our learning and being brave. We complemented each other for kind actions, fair behavior and giving help when it was needed. These complements lay the foundation of trust and understanding in our classroom and will allow us to build a deep relationship so that when we begin to solve class problems, we will be able to without distrust and shame.
Finally, this week we also worked really hard on building stamina in reading and writing. We had a new record in read to self of 16 minutes! Wow! To top it off, several days this week when I rang the chime to end writing time, there was a resounding “No! We want to keep writing!” While we did have to stop writing at that time because of recess and lunch, many students chose to write during free choice. What a great group of learners we have in room 137!
