First of all I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful teacher appreciation and birthday gifts- I have never felt so loved and valued. Thank you.
For the past month we have been writing poetry in our classroom. Poetry is one of my favorite content areas to teach every year and this year has been my favorite so far! Poetry allows all students to write freely about topics important to them and to explore feelings and senses. Weekly, we have been selecting a poem to publish and then illustrate and hang in our hallway. Please stop by regularly to check out our work!
This week we will also take a field trip to see Rapunzel in order to wrap up our fairy tale unit. We have been exploring many different fairy tales from around the world and have been comparing and contrasting various fairy tales.
Finally, we have begun MAP testing. We will be testing over the next two weeks, please make sure your child is well rested so he/she can do his/her very best. Watching the students take their first test on Monday, I was struck by how much they have matured and grown. When we took the fall test, many students were finished in 10-15 minutes. On Friday, everyone took at least 30 minutes to carefully read, listen and reread each question before moving on to the next. While MAP testing is not a large part of our curriculum, I was so impressed to see how seriously students were taking the test and working to make sure they were giving their very best effort.
Thank you again,
Alicia
