We have been busy in room 137 this week. This week baby Austin, who is becoming more animated each time we see him, visited us. We learned about Austin’s emotions and how even though he is a little baby, he experiences the same emotions we do. Austin’s visits are truly a high point in our week, when the students see his name on the schedule, there is always a great deal of excitement.
In addition to Austin’s visit, we took a visit to Queen Anne Manor. Now that we have finished our PBL, we will be visiting the manor monthly to keep up our relationships. As a class we talked about activities we could do with the manor residents. We decided to bring math games and puzzles from our classroom and make Valentines with the residents. It is amazing to see how engaged the students become when we reach the manor. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera this week, so I do not have any photos from our visit.
On Friday we had a school wide assembly for Martin Luther King Jr. day. The second graders and the kindergarteners sang several songs and presented information about Martin Luther King, Jr. As a class, we watched part of the March on Washington speech. We were amazed at the amount and diversity of people who attended the march. As a class, we were able to get a sense of how powerful Dr. King’s words were and how he helped change our world for the better.
Thank you,
Alicia
