We have hit the ground running these last few weeks before spring break and wow we are busy!
First, we have kicked off our PBL For the Birds! This week we went birding around QAE, observed and made scientific drawings of stuffed birds and read a plethora of bird books. We are becoming quite the bird experts in room 137 and we would love if you have any birds guides, articles or books that you could send in to help us with our study.
Another big event this week is we received our first letters from our pen pals from Sacajawea Elementary in North Seattle. Ms. Meck and I were approached by two first grade teachers about a month ago about pen pals and we jumped at the idea. Pen pals are a great way for students to develop their writing skills as well as a fun way to connect with other students from across the city. We will write letters and send our letters through the district mail in a package. We just sent our response letters on Friday so hopefully we will receive a letter sometime after spring break.
Finally, we had our first completion of the 50-book challenge! When your student has finished their chain, please send the chain with them to school so we can take their picture and cheer their accomplishment as a class.
